Main properties and uses of wire and cable

Wires and cables are widely used in all aspects of our life, production, etc., providing important supporting facilities for industry, national defense and major construction projects. They are called the “vessels” of economic development and are the basic guarantee for the operation of modern economy and society.

1.The basic structure of wire and cable

The basic structure of wire and cable is composed of three parts: conductor, insulating layer and protective layer.
a.Conductor: transmits current and guides the way of power transmission.
b. Insulation layer: withstand voltage and act as insulation.
c.Protective layer: protect the cable insulation layer from the influence and damage of the external environment.
According to the use characteristics of various types of cables, some cables themselves may only have conductors without insulation and protection layers, such as bare conductors.

2.The main characteristics of wire and cable

(1)Electrical properties

Conductivity: Most products require good conductivity, and individual products require a certain resistance range.
Insulation performance: insulation resistance, dielectric constant, dielectric loss, withstand voltage characteristics, etc.
Transmission characteristics: refers to high-frequency transmission characteristics, anti-interference characteristics, etc.

(2)Mechanical properties

Wire and cable will be stretched to a certain extent during use, which requires the cable to have tensile strength, flexibility, wear resistance and other properties.

(3)Corrosion and weather resistance

Refers to the properties of resistance to galvanic corrosion, biological and bacterial erosion, chemical erosion resistance, sunlight resistance, cold resistance, mildew resistance and moisture resistance. The bare conductor is also called steel-cored aluminum stranded wire. It is mainly used for field overhead laying under special conditions such as large spans and high altitudes. It needs to have good corrosion resistance and weather resistance.
